The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell. Lori began her service on the Board of Supervisors in January, 2015, representing Ward 3, and was elected mayor in 2020. She is known for her budget expertise, attention to detail on contracts, her compassion for those in need, and most of all her ability to work with others for the mutual benefit of the community.

Lori’s 26-year career path began at the age of 17, in the mail room at the Department of Taxation. She later became a lobbyist and Budget Director/Taxation Specialist for the Nevada Association of Counties. She then served as Tax Administrator for the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety, Management Analyst for Child and Family Services, Budget Analyst for the Governor’s Office, and Deputy Director of the Department of Corrections.

After retirement from state service, Lori tried her hand at being a business owner and entrepreneur. This gave her a first hand understanding the challenges faced by the small business community. Taken together, Lori's public and private sector experience give her an excellent complement of skills that serve her well as the city's mayor.

Lori successfully advocated for an increase to the City's Ending Fund Balance (savings account), doubling it over the past five years, also for the creation of an account to facilitate long term maintenance of city assets. She worked with other Board members to establish transportation districts within the city, so that every area would have equal access to road maintenance and repair services.

Lori was a key player in establishing Richards Crossing, a 39-bed housing project for those in need, with priority placement for veterans. She co-chaired the fundraising committee which successfully raised the funds needed to furnish all the units. She believes that those who have previously experienced homelessness should be provided with furnishings for their new homes.

Along with her husband Jim, Lori Bagwell enjoys life as a community leader and parent of three children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one dog.

This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, November 20th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Mayor Bagwell's presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
